At John Grant High School, we offer a range of specialized programs that support student development and prepare them for greater independence, continued education, or entry into the workforce. Programs are divided into Junior (ages 11–15) and Senior (ages 15+) pathways.
Junior Programs (Ages 11–15)
DLP – Diversified Learning Pathway
The DLP is a four-year academic and life skills program adapted to each student’s ability. Students focus on functional literacy, numeracy, communication, and social development through meaningful and practical content. Core subjects include English, French, Math, Science, History, Geography, Physical Education, Arts, Citizenship Education, and Life in Society. The program helps students progress academically while preparing for senior pathways such as WOTP or DÉFIS.
CASP – Competency-Based Approach to Social Participation
This program helps students develop basic academic and life skills needed to participate in society. It focuses on communication, independence, and social integration.
Senior Programs (Ages 15–16+)
DÉFIS – Demarche Educative Favorisant L’intégration Sociale ("Challenges")
- Focus: Life skills, basic academic subjects, and social integration
- Instruction: 900 hours per year over 5 years
- Certification:
- Certificate of Completion (issued by the English Montreal School Board)
- Certification of a Practicum for students who complete a work placement
WOTP – Work-Oriented Training Pathway
A hands-on program focusing on functional academics and preparing students for the workforce through job placements.
Pre-Work Training (PWT)
- Mastery of at least 7 workplace competencies across multiple semi-skilled trades
- Focus on professional attitudes and behaviour
- 900 hours of work placement
- Certification: Pre-Work Training Certificate (issued by the Ministry of Education – MEQ)
Training for a Semi-Skilled Trade (TST)
- Mastery of competencies for a specific semi-skilled trade
- 900 hours of work placement (450+ in the selected trade)
- Certification: Training in the Semi-Skilled Trade Certificate (issued by the Ministry of Education – MEQ)
APP – Autonomy Preparation Program
- Focus: Autonomy, self-advocacy, self-care, work placements, and life skills
- Instruction: 900 hours per year
- Certification: Certificate of Completion (issued by John Grant High School)
Note: Students may complete up to two different trade programs if they meet the requirements for both.
